Research notes for foreign nationals in China

Delta Law Expat Services DeskLast verified

This is the research index of the Expat Services Desk. Each note takes one question a foreign national in China actually faces — a residence or work-permit rule, an employment or social-insurance obligation, a property, family or succession point, a tax-residence or cross-border funds question — states the rule as it currently stands, cites the official text, and gives the date it was last verified. Notes are written in English with the key Chinese terms alongside, so that the wording can be matched against the official text and used with a Chinese counterparty or authority.

The rules themselves, with document numbers and effective dates, are indexed under Laws and Regulations; ten questions expats actually ask are answered in the FAQ; the stage-by-stage guides start on the Expat Services home page.

Note — Each note cites the official text it relies on and the date it was last verified; where a rule has changed, the note states the version in force at that date. Research notes are general legal information, not legal advice on any specific case, and procedural steps follow whatever the accepting authority currently publishes.
